Notes Tips #8: Control Your Windows – The Domino Elf

By Hogne B. Pettersen | 7/10/20 3:42 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

Tired of all your Notes windows, tabs and documents just keep piling up on the right side of the client? Would you like to group them? Or have them open in their own windows? Then read on! I once had a user that complained that Notes kept running out of memory. It was then I discovered that he had 538 documents open in his Notes client!

Writing the XSP Transpiler Maven Plugin

By Jesse Gallagher | 7/10/20 3:39 AM | Development - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

When I was first getting my XPages webapp support project into workable shape, I was faced with the immediate problem of translating XSP source into a usable form. Though the XPages core contains both the code for translating XSP source to Java and the loader that executes the compiled Java classes, they're best thought of as two disjoint components in a larger toolchain.

As we are used to in other applications, Verse On-Premises (VOP) also has its keyboard shortcuts. You can find them in the documentation. I listed them here too.

Sametime Proxy “Loading” Problem

By Gabriella Davis | 7/3/20 1:33 AM | Infrastructure - Sametime | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

Having recently installed a new Sametime 11 environment on Linux with Sametime Proxy I ran into a problem with the proxy client where it would continually show “loading” when starting a conversation. Awareness of users on other servers worked, type ahead worked, it would open a chat window but just show a looping circle that never ended. Even if I tried talking to myself (usually a good test).

Start and stop Sametime Proxy Server V11 automatically with Linux systemd service

By Thomas Bahn | 7/3/20 1:32 AM | Infrastructure - Sametime | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

A systemd configuration to start Sametime Proxy Server as a service, whenever the Linux server starts. I have already expressed my joy in several articles here that Sametime now works without the WebSphere Application Server (WAS) and without Db2. And that because of this fundamental change there were some gaps in the short term, which all could be closed/repaired quickly and easily. This article also fits into this category:

Domino Docker and Debugging

By Stephan Wissel | 6/30/20 2:15 AM | Development - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

Given that Domino once was build to run on 486 capacity of servers, Docker and Domino are posed to be a match made in heaven (eventually). Jesse shared shared his Weekend Domino-Apps-in-Docker Experimentation, Paul shared his learning points and Daniel provided the invaluable Domino on Docker build scripts. So it's time to contribute my share. The topic is slightly more exotic

Notes Tips #6: Notes knows what you did last week

By Hogne B. Pettersen | 6/29/20 7:14 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

Did you know that Notes remembers every single application and document you’ve accessed in the last seven days? I give you: Notes history! How many times have you been searching for that email or that document in Notes that you are sure you read just a few days ago. Notes can help you with that!

Weekend Domino-Apps-in-Docker Experimentation

By Jesse Gallagher | 6/29/20 5:05 AM | Development - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

For a couple of years now, first IBM and then HCL have worked on and adapted community work to get Domino running in Docker. I've observed this for a while, but haven't had a particular need: while it's nice and all to be able to spin up a Domino server in Docker, it's primarily an "admin" thing. I have my suite of development Domino servers in VMs, and they're chugging along fine.

TrendMicro Virus Scanner Support for Domino 11

By Daniel Nashed | 6/25/20 11:24 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

We had the question for AIX a while ago and it was more difficult because the version for AIX is a different implementation. But for Windows and Linux there is an official support statement as well. My customer sent me a different link not showing Domino 11 support. But my contact had the correct link: Not having anti-virus or backup supported for a new Domino version, can be a big road blocked for upgrades. In this case, Trend did already do the verification.

Enforcing password change at the next time for Internet password could be a problem

By Rainer Brandl | 6/24/20 2:30 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

Yesterday I had an issue at customer where a case at HCL ( CSCS0131265 ) has been opened. Up to the beginning: with Domino V11.0.1 the great feature for authenticating users accessing via Web protocol like HTTP(s), LDAP,… against the ID Vault is working like a charm. Therefore I registered a lot of people without setting an HTTP password in the person document. Afterwards I enforced the users to change the password after the first login what also worked fine.

Use a SSL certificate for the Sametime Proxy – a very easy way

By Roberto Boccadoro | 6/22/20 7:52 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

By default when you install Sametime Proxy 11 it will use self signed certificates. My peer HCL Ambassador Ales Lichtenberg has written a blog post, here, about how to use a CA issued certificate. In his article he uses the .pem format for the certificates; I found there is another way to do this using the pfx format for certificates.

My install manual "HCL Sametime V11.0 - Step by Step" is out

By Ales Lichtenberg | 6/22/20 5:37 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

According to previous announcements, I tried to create first version a step by step installation manual for HCL Sametime V11.0. I would very much appreciate your reactions, ideas, comments that I could still include or correct in the manual. I hope that at least someone will be helped by this document.

Installing the HCL Connections Component Pack 6.5 CR1 – Part 4: Prepare the application environment

By Martijn de Jong | 6/22/20 4:25 AM | Infrastructure - Connections | Added by John Oldenburger

If you followed the steps from the previous parts, you have a working Kubernetes cluster and a Docker registry containing all images necessary for installing the Component Pack. In this part I’ll discuss installing all helm charts up to, but not including, the actual components like OrientMe, Elasticsearch etc.

HCL removed Bluemix capabilities from Extlib in 11.0.1

By Oliver Busse | 6/20/20 4:48 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

I recently upgraded a server from 11.0.0 to 11.0.1. One of the apps utilized my DAO bean I created a while back which was able to automatically manage to access the underlaying database depending on if it runs on premises or on IBM Bluemix (now known as IBM Cloud). After the upgrade this app threw errors that some Java classes are unknown.

Managed Beans to CDI

By Jesse Gallagher | 6/20/20 4:46 AM | Development - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

When I was getting familiar with modern Java server development, one of the biggest conceptual stumbling blocks by far was CDI. Part of the trouble was that I kind of jumped in the deep end, by way of JNoSQL's examples. JNoSQL is a CDI citizen through and through, and so the docs would just toss out things like how you "create a repository" by just making an interface with no implementation.

Xsp Initialization error – Could not load class or methods after upgrade from Domino 11.0 to 11.0.1 on Linux

By Kenio Carvalho | 6/19/20 4:16 PM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

Today i upgrade one server to Domino 11.0.1 from Domino 11.0 on linux. When the server starts the HTTP the console show the error bellow. The solution was to delete all content of the folder /opt/lotus/notes/latest/linux/osgi/shared/eclipse/plugins and run the installer again.

HCL Connections Goes all Microsoft Teams on Us

Earlier this week HCL gave us previews of the next version of HCL Connections that will be out by New Years. During the German usergroup’s (DNUG) online conference they gave a demo on how it looks. And it does look very familiar, doesn’t it?

The RuntimeEnvironment Idiom

By Jesse Gallagher | 6/18/20 9:16 AM | Development - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

One of the specific problems that we encountered with my aforementioned client app first when expanding it to include REST services and then later to be portable outside an NSF entirely is dealing with varying mechanisms for interacting with the surrounding environment.

Custom image for the Notes client Workspace background by a policy

By Ales Lichtenberg | 6/18/20 4:56 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

In Notes Client V11, you can set your own image for the Workspace background. You may want everyone in your company to have the same background, such as a picture with company logo. There is a way to distribute an image with a background, including setting that background to all or selected users.

XPages: The UI Toolkit and the App Framework

By Jesse Gallagher | 6/18/20 4:51 AM | Development - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

Lately, one of my client projects has been picking up the pace on the years-long effort of taking a giant XPages app, making the business logic portable, and incrementally cutting down on the "XPage-iness" of it all. I expect that this will be a recurring source of blog posts, and this one is about distinguishing between "XPages the UI toolkit" and "XPages the web app framework".

Notes Tips #5: Find Notes Application in Three Seconds

How many times have you, or one of your users, been desperately looking around on their Workspace in Notes to find an application? After this tip, you will never do so again! There’s no need to spend time looking for a Notes application or database on your workspace or in the bookmark menu.

Some Stumbles Installing Sametime 11 FP1

By Gabriella Davis | 6/18/20 4:48 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

This week I was installing Sametime v11 on Linux as a test for a customer where I needed to confirm code written specifically for Windows would compile and work for Sametime on Linux. I hit several (now resolved) problems during the install that I wanted to share here.

What to do if DAOS does not work properly after upgrading to Domino 11

By Roberto Mazzoni | 6/18/20 3:08 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

After upgrading some of our mail servers to Domino version 11.0.1 we run into serious problems with DAOS. After upgrading from Domino 10.0.1FP3 to 11.0.1 on RHEL7, DAOS no longer worked correctly and DBMT moved all attachments back into the mail, which of course required a lot more disk space and backup volume. First measure was to stop DBMT to prevent further movement. All measures we had taken like rebuilding the DAOS catalog did not help.

Docker, WSL and VMware Workstation running at the same time on Windows 10

By Daniel Nashed | 6/15/20 1:13 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

This is awesome news! When I updated this week to Windows 10 Pro 2004, I looked into what's new. WSL2 got some updates and there is a new Windows Sanbox, which is also pretty cool to test stuff. You can enable it and start it just like an app. This is similar to starting a Linux desktop like Ubuntu. WSL2 is around for a while but I never looked into it. The what's new and the Sandbox made me look into it. Once you enabled WSL2 and downloaded one of the distributions form the Microsoft store (Ubuntu in my case), you can really run Linux on your Windows machine.
