OpenNTF at Engage

By OpenNTF | 5/3/19 6:02 AM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

It‘s probably fitting thatI’m writing a blog post about Engage sat in a coffee shop, on my iPad, using Domino Mobile Apps. The last year has brought the product a long way and one of the most significant new projects has been Theo Heselmans’ Wine App. Admittedly the OpenNTF Blog database is unchanged from the desktop version, but it’s probably only going to be seen by a handful of people, so investment is less beneficial.

Become a NERD using Domino V10

By OpenNTF | 10/11/18 3:39 AM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

Nerds are very cool these days - but, you may ask, what has a NERD to do with Domino V10? Should they not all bleed yellow? Maybe, but behind the acronym NERD is a very compelling technology decision! But first, let us jump into the acronym.

Domino V10: Get Involved As A Project Contributor for OpenNTF

By OpenNTF | 6/28/18 10:18 AM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

With Domino V10 just around the corner and a commitment already announced at Engage from HCL and IBM to work with OpenNTF, there is no better time to get involved. It may seem an onerous task and there may seem more administration than necessary around contributing to OpenNTF. The measures in place are designed to give greater confidence to our consumers while minimising the work involved for contributors. It's actually quick and painless. There are just four steps:

OpenNTF - OpenNTF on Twitter

By OpenNTF | 11/17/17 7:38 AM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

When the free non-production Domino server license was launched on developerWorks earlier this year, it brought that area of developerWorks to the conscious awareness for possibly the first time. I looked at the "Communities" sub-page and, in particular, the "Social" area near the bottom on the right. That highlighted that there were Twitter feeds being publicised that were not being maintained. That needed addressing.

OpenAPI Specifications for Freebusy and Calendar available on OpenNTF's Github account and SmartNSF Beta 2 released

The application development landscape of today's world is completely upside-down. While in the past a platform has to integrate all and should consume open standards, in today's world a platform should be capable of being integrated everywhere and providing open standards. This shift is a logical consequence of the new paradigms of microservices and microservice-oriented architecture.

Last year OpenNTF jointly hosted an ICS development contest with IBM with a difference: there had to be a team involved. The winners were Frank van der Linden and Frederic Dehedin. The application covered a variety of technologies, including Bluemix, Cloudant, and Watson. It also used the Jackson JSON Mapper Frank also submitted to OpenNTF and which has been covered on this blog before.

Learn, share and collaborate - The monday at IBM Connect is YOUR Day

By OpenNTF | 1/16/17 3:47 AM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

LotusSphere/IBM Connect/IBM ConnectED have always been great events. And it's absolute natural to expect the same for this years edition. A first dive into the session list let you proof the expectation. But for me as a developer, there was always something missing at this events. The hands on experience. Yes there where labs (which I enjoy), but try to do something cool and crazy. Work together with other developer and do something special.... There was no time, to many good sessions, to many good opportunities to talk with friends, customers, experts and executives.

While we are celebrating 15 Years of OpenNTF - Another era has come to a well deserved end!

By OpenNTF | 12/17/16 9:28 AM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

15 Years old! Founded as Notes Open Source Software and renamed to OpenNTF, OpenNTF.org has become 15 years old. I think the founders of OpenNTF - Bruce Elgort and Nathan T. Freeman, and also Vince Shuurman who was involved in the early years of OpenNTF - did not imagine how important OpenNTF would become after all these years.

Project Spotlight: JsonBeanX and Jackson4XPages

By OpenNTF | 4/19/16 10:29 AM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

A search of OpenNTF projects for the term JSON will return a number of projects over a long period of time. JSON has long been a key data interchange format, being language independent and not requiring a fixed agreed schema. It is this reason in particular that has led to it overtaking SOAP as a data transfer mechanism, enabling microservices to be built and further developed without breaking existing interactions.

2015 involved a number of infrastructure changes at OpenNTF: servers were upgraded, we updated the website content, nginx was placed in front of our sites to add SSL support and we are in the process of rolling out various Atlassian products - Stash for source control, JIRA for issue tracking, Bamboo for automatic building of projects and Confluence for documentation, most evidently for XPages Knowledge Base, thanks for John Jardin.
