HCL Factory Tour Episode 2

By Paul Withers | 3/1/19 5:17 PM | Community - Events / People | Added by Oliver Busse

This week I’ve spent a hugely beneficial amount of time at the HCL Factory Tour Episode 2. As with the previous factory tour, the ability to get quality time with key individuals from HCL and IBM, as well as not only hear but feed back on progress is invaluable. Before going I’d also intended to use the conference to crystalise my focuses for Engage. And obviously it was a great opportunity to have influential discussions regarding OpenNTF and open source, discussions that would normally have happened at IBM Think.

Today is the day after I returned home from three intense days at the HCL factory tour in Milano, Italy. I wanted to blog a lot earlier about the event but did not find the time due to the jam packed content-filled and socially busy days and evenings. First and foremost - HCL did a great job in letting us look under the covers of what they have planned and are planning on doing.

Last year there was a DNUG conference in Darmstadt, in my own backyard, but I never officially heard about it. It presented an opportunity for the HCL team to meet me. At the time HCL was in a partnership with IBM to develop and support Notes, Domino and Sametime. Their first delivery was going to be Domino V10 about four months later.

The HCL Team, lead by Richard Jefts, was kind enough to invite me to its second Factory Tour, this time in Europe, in the HCL offices in Milan, in Italy. Milan is just a 3.5 hour trip in the train from Zürich, going through the new Gotthard tunnel, so it was an almost leisurely travel, compared to the trip to Boston last year.

This week I spent time in Milan at HCL’s 2nd factory tour at their offices. It was an intense couple of days, with presentations from the development teams working on Domino, Notes, Nomad, Sametime, DQL, etc, as well as HCL executives working on building the support program, the partner program, and HCL’s client advocacy program.

After an intensive first day and a great evening followed by an interesting program right from the morning. The second day I was most interested in the news about Verse 11, Sametime 10, Client Notes 11. Barry Rosen and Andrew Davis have demonstrated the functionality that will appear in the near future in VOP 1.0.7.

This week, another HCL Factory Tours is running, this time in Milan. I like to join the others and I’m in place. Richard Jefts started HCL Factory Tour Episode 2 as Star Wars style. Richard summed up what had happened since the launch of the Domino V10 and introduced the plans for year 2019.
