Full instructions for implementing Nomad Server behind an Apache Reverse Proxy - Domino People

By Cormac McCarthy | 3/19/24 2:19 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

HCL have recently published a technote on how to implement Nomad Server behind Apache reverse proxy This is really useful and noteworthy as previously as far as I know, the only third party instructions for reverse proxy were NGINX. I hope you find this useful.

Danube EAP Drop 5 is here!

By Cormac McCarthy | 9/21/22 5:36 PM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

Four weeks on from the last code drop HCL today released 12.0.2 EAP Drop 5Headline items for me: Domino Restyler is available out of box in the Notes client as opposed to the last drop in Nomad. (Note: a very informative getting started video with Domino Restyle from the Cross Canada Collaboration User Group is here ) We get a new version of the Admin/Designer 64 bit client. (that’s not to say we don’t get versions of all other client, we do) The Notes client on Mac runs on 12.6 Monterey (though won’t perfectly until GA)

Danube - Early Access 1 - What are you getting?

By Cormac McCarthy | 6/13/22 1:46 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

On my blog last week recapping Engage, I mentioned the Early Access Program for Danube (Domino 12.0.2). This is quite unusual how early for a release of this type in that usually there will be some form of closed early access program ahead of a public beta. What this shows us is that HCL are confident in the release, but also completely transparent about where the code base is(or was two weeks ago when this was released).

Sometimes obvious and straightforward is good

While troubleshooting a (relatively complex) issue with a customer recently, I was involved in troubleshooting call with several “Subject Matter Experts”, and the problem came down to, what attributes are in Azure AD. AD Attributes don’t all synch by default. (even if ticked in AD Connect).

Seamless SMTP failover(and round robin) in outbound Domino connections

We still get comments on a blog post I did 9 years ago on SMTP Debug for Domino SMTP Routing. (I’ve updated non-working links today). This got me thinking on what other SMTP config would be useful to people. Here I’m going to cover an often underused setting relating to Domino SMTP Routing.

101 NEW features of Domino 12 - Domino People

By Cormac McCarthy | 6/4/21 2:06 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

I was thinking about the actual features included and the list is so long I started to write them down. I did write a blog for HCL a few weeks back on the Four Security Security features you’ve been waiting for and writing down an actual list this week I came up with 101 features of Domino 12. (believe it or not there’s actually more than that but I had to draw the line somewhere!).

So if you haven’t been watching NCUG (why not! Well done Hogne it’s been really good), Thomas Hampel announced that a new feature DOMI will be available within days on GitHub for free.

Domino Public key checking - Do it.

By Cormac McCarthy | 4/29/21 2:04 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

HCL are really on top of their game on security and so is Domino. You may have recently seen a blog I did for HCL on HCL Domino v12: The 4 New Security Features You’ve Been Waiting for However it is really important not to assume that your environment is completely secure. This blog today is more back to the fundamentals of Domino security and one setting in particular. I complete health checks and security audits of environments all the time. On most environments where Domino People have not been before there is one setting that is consistently overlooked. It’s on the Security Tab of your Server document. “Compare public keys“. It’s usually left blank.

Quick tip - Connection documents with Domino clusters

By Cormac McCarthy | 4/21/21 2:11 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

This is a powerful yet under-utilized feature in Domino. It’s not complicated. In a replication connection document, you can use the Domino server cluster name instead of a server name in the “Destination server” field.

Addressing ill informed opinions of HCL Domino

By Cormac McCarthy | 2/22/21 4:12 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

Something that has been discussed with HCL Ambassadors, HCL and within Domino People on an ongoing basis is ill informed opinions of HCL Domino. Get the name right for a start.

"Subjective Alternative Name" is missing from Certificate

By Cormac McCarthy | 2/5/21 1:17 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

Firstly, it would be remiss to not state the obvious here:- in Domino 12 there is a complete overhaul of how you initiate certs and cert requests within Domino. With the new CertMgr you can “magically” get a cert with LetsEncrypt. If you haven’t tried the beta of Domino 12 please do. It is magic. Or if not a magic cert with Let’s Encrypt, a completely overhauled GUI if you want to be able to create certs with another third party CA (or even internal CA), or if you “just” want a wildcard cert. However until Domino 12 comes out in production, I’m generally still using OpenSSL.

Logical sizes, Physical Sizes, Transaction Logs and Quotas

By Cormac McCarthy | 1/7/21 2:57 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

Here’s a scenario we see commonly enough~: A customer enforces mail quotas. The customer also uses DAOS. And the question arises which type of quota enforcement (within their transaction log settings) should they be using? Well good question.

ID Sync for Nomad Biometrics Authentication, Traveler now supports MySQL and Notes on Big Sur.

By Cormac McCarthy | 11/19/20 2:55 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

HCL aren’t shy on rolling out big new features are they…. There’s been three significant releases in the last 24 hours. HCL Notes and Domino have both have 11.0.1 FP2 released and Traveler similarly has 11.0.2. These are not bog standard fix packs.

One thing that you might have missed from the Domino 12 preview/announcement

By Cormac McCarthy | 11/11/20 3:39 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

There were so many new features to focus on, one that I think could easily be missed is a straight forward one. It’s one that’s planned for Domino 12

Can I use a pre-existing SSL certificate with Domino?

By Cormac McCarthy | 10/13/20 11:14 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

Here’s a common problem that comes up and the documentation on it is pretty non-existent (or more accurately the information is out there but not Domino specific so you really have to know what you’re doing to get it done). An organisation has purchased a SSL certificate, often a wildcard cert. Something like *.mycompany.com. They use it on other non-Domino web services. Can you use the same cert in Domino (without creating a csr and re-keying the cert)?

Useful view for Replication or Save conflicts

By Cormac McCarthy | 9/19/12 1:01 PM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Niklas Heidloff

This is a quick tip that can be used to find Replication or Save Conflicts in any Notes application, but as an Admin I’ve found it most useful for a Domain’s NAB.
